Teaching

Jon Sharp TeachingJon teaches out of his music studio in the Madison Plaza, downtown Corvallis. Prior to moving to Oregon, he taught beginning and intermediate adult group guitar classes with the East San Jose Union High School District for a number of years and has taught privately for several years catering to students from 8 years to 70 years of age.

For aspiring classical guitarists, Jon recommends a structured approach to the guitar that matches
repertoire with appropriate technique building exercises and is anchored with a method book selected to meet your needs as a student. This provides a systematic approach to reading music and understanding music theory.

A typical weekly lesson will include practical exercises to build technique, develop music reading skills, and work on prepared pieces. Lessons cost $40 for 1 hour ($45 starting 2019) and $25 for 30 mins. Remember, for younger people, music and playing the guitar can provide a lifetime of enjoyment. For older people, it’s never too late to learn!

Please feel free to contact Jon to talk about your specific needs. Jon’s email is jmds157@yahoo.com Or call: 541 829 2092

In order to provide the local guitar community with a great range of classical guitars, Jon has just begun selling Córdoba instruments from his studio in downtown Corvallis. Córdoba offers an excellent range of guitars of very high quality and for very affordable prices. Finding the right guitar is important in terms of inspiring our musical soul and enabling us to achieve our full potential as musicians. For this reason Jon felt it important to provide the growing local classical scene with the opportunity to try out guitars that offer different characteristics in terms of sound, feel, sizes, and for a range of budgets. If you wish to find the classical guitar that is right for you, please contact Jon by phone or email to arrange an appointment and he will introduce you to the wonderful world of Córdoba classical guitars.

I am delighted to announce that, following the award of a grant from the Benton County Cultural Coalition (thank you BCCC!), the Guitar Society is in the process of planning a Guitar Festival in Corvallis which is scheduled to take place on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th June 2017. Please mark your calendars! The Festival will comprise two concerts, a Masterclass with our internationally acclaimed headline concert artist (who we hope to announce soon), and guitar workshops. More information will follow as we nail down the details so please watch this space and please tell your friends.
